TV Ratings Are Bullshit
TV ratings are bullshit.
Thanks Nielson. A “representative sampling” of viewers?
Arrested Development was canceled due to “low ratings”. The Nielsen top 6 rated TV shows are variations of NCIS, Dancing With The Stars, and American Idol. The people who are being polled are watching these shows. http://www.nielsen.com/us/en/insights/top10s/television.html
This isn’t taking into account Online TV, which is becoming significantly more popular.
Popular TV shows on hulu include Community, The Office, Arrested Development, and House. Hulu can actually track how many views are on each episode/video, whereas the Nielson ratings are bullshit representative samplings. Furthermore, these shows that have lower ratings are not exactly family shows. They’re college/highschool aged shows with interesting humor. As a college student, even if I did have a TV, it would be very rare for me to have the time at which the tv show was on so I’d watch it online later. The top shows according the the Nielsen company are family shows where either younger children/older people (who watch American Idol, Dancing with the Stars) are always home at the time of the show. It’s late, I’m tired, but I’m pissed. Community is said to have low ratings and sure there are some feuds between Dan Harmon and those in charge/Chevy Chase, but to the executives, i.e. Robert Greenblatt: This isn’t about you. This is about the show. It’s an incredibly creative program that represents fine television. Is this strictly a business to you? Where’s the entertainment that you’re in charge of? -
Dan Harmon Poops: HEY, DID I MISS ANYTHING?
Kids:
A few hours ago, I landed in Los Angeles, turned on my phone, and confirmed what you already know. Sony Pictures Television is replacing me as showrunner on Community, with two seasoned fellows that I’m sure are quite nice - actually, I have it on good authority they’re quite nice, because…

“I believe the universe wants to be noticed. I think the universe is improbably biased toward the consciousness, that it rewards intelligence in part because the universe enjoys its elegance being observed. And who am I, living in the middle of history, to tell the universe that it-or my observation of it-is temporary?”

Can’t I just eat my cookies, stand on my bed and look pensively out the window?
Thalia (via thaliatriestoexplainthings) -
I’m coming to terms that I’m not concerned
With planting my feet but moving onward
I’m growing older but I can’t get over
The need of colder skin when I know that home is warmer
It’s just that I have this problem
Where I want to be everywhere I’m not
But I’m thankful for what I’ve got
A room in a house where my bed may stay
But the feel of another’s sheets help keep my demons away
It’s become clear that what keeps me here
Is that sense of failure and other nightmares
I’ve become jaded and I can’t escape it
The thought of settling when I know it’s what I hated
It’s just I have this problem
Where I want to be everywhere I’m not
It’s just I know myself and I’ll sacrifice everything I’ve got
Though I can’t afford to eat as much as I would like to be
And my bills won’t pay themselves so I’ll come up with another scheme
This place looks better from a passenger window
Or when stared at from up above
But when you’re chasing brightness
You’ll lose concern with the damage done
It’s not my fault
I’ll try to call
No ties no roots I’m fine.Posted on April 4, 2012 via Vibhor Abridged with 3 notes
